Delhi University will admit 20 per cent “extra students” under unreserved and OBC categories and 30 per cent in the SC,ST category to fill the maximum seats in undergraduate courses in the first round of counselling this year, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh said on Thursday. This will also help in filling the reserved seats which remain vacant throughout the year, Mr Singh told PTI. The coveted Erasmus Mundus scholarships have been given to 161 Indian students, 88 of whom are women, for degree programmes beginning in the academic year 2022–2023. With the most students receiving this award out of 167 nations, India tops the list for the second consecutive year. The recipients of the scholarships supported directly by Erasmus Mundus this year came from 19 different states in India, with many of them being students at some of the top universities in the country. The Delhi High Court will hear on Thursday a petition by several National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) aspirants seeking to postpone the competitive examination for the year 2022 which is scheduled to be held on July 17. The petition filed by fifteen aspirants for undergraduate medical and dental courses, who belong to different States, is listed for hearing before Justice Sanjeev Narula. The petitioners, on Wednesday, mentioned the matter before a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad, which allowed it to be listed for hearing on the next day, the lawyer for the petitioners said. After receiving 1.49 million registrations this year for admission to undergraduate programmes at institutions, the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2022 has grown to become India’s second-largest entrance test. India’s largest admission test, the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), chooses candidates for undergraduate medical programmes. Applications for CUET-UG outnumbered those for JEE-Main, which selects candidates for technical undergraduate courses. According to the “Times of India,” applicants submitted 54,555 different topic combinations through CUET-UG for admission to 90 universities. Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh Tuesday said that “maximum flexibility” has been given to applicants to exercise options for admission in the courses of their choice through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) for undergraduate programmes. In a statement, Mr Singh said more than 1.4 million students have applied for admission in 90 universities with different subject combinations and a specific date sheet has been created for each applicant considering a large number of subjects for all classes. Uttarakhand on Tuesday became the first state in the country to initiate process of implementing the Centre’s New Education Policy, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurating ‘Bal Vatikas’ at anganwadi kendras across the state to strengthen the pre-primary education system. The ‘Bal Vatikas’ will function at 4,457 anganwadi kendras in the state and will be equivalent to the nursery classes at a private school.
