The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a reminder for the regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions.
All institutions have been requested by UGC to take the required actions for its implementation, including setting up a monitoring system. The Commission also warned that any institution that does not act in compliance with these regulations, does not take appropriate action to prevent ragging, or does not appropriately punish those who commit acts of ragging will face punitive action from the UGC.
Additionally, UGC has advised institutions to strengthen their anti-ragging measures by increasing awareness through a variety of channels, including alarm bells, alarm committees, squads, cells, CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations, anti-ragging seminars and workshops, updating all websites with the complete information of nodal officers, and more. It is imperative to guarantee that the institution’s e-prospectus and e-information booklets/brochures include anti-ragging warnings, identify trouble-triggers, and engage in regular counseling and interaction with students. It is necessary to conduct surprise inspections of dorms, dormitories, canteens, rest areas and recreational rooms, restrooms, and bus stops.
Additionally, it has been mandated to put up anti-ragging posters in all notable locations, including the admissions office, departments, library, canteen, hostel, and common areas. You can find these posters at ugc.ac.in, the UGC website. The posters ought to measure eight by six feet.
