The Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine (MFCEM) was established by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to support advances in biomedical engineering. With the help of Rahul Mehta of the Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), the center has been established. Additionally, a two-day inaugural symposium was held in conjunction with the center’s opening.
According to a statement from IIT Kanpur, among other topics covered at the symposium were genome editing- and nanomedicine-based approaches to disease treatment, as well as the use of digital medicine to understand how the brain is reprogrammed in diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Molecular medicine, regenerative medicine, and digital medicine are the three main research areas at MFCEM, and the research symposium included engaging talks from well-known international experts in each of these fields.
Through lightning talks, posters, and interactions with the distinguished speakers, the symposium also gave students a platform to present their research across the three MFCEM focus areas.
MFCEM is advancing the goal of creating novel, long-lasting engineering solutions for health-related issues. Faculty from various engineering and science departments, such as biological sciences and bioengineering (BSBE), computer science and engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, and cognitive science, are involved in the center, which builds on IIT Kanpur’s current strengths.
