Australia’s Deakin University, the first foreign university to set up an international campus at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, started seeking applications on Tuesday for its two postgraduate programmes – session starting July 2024 – at an annual fee of AUD 19,000 (around Rs 10.7 lakh).
This was declared on the second day of the Australian delegation’s visit to Gujarat, which was headed by Jason Clare, the Minister of Education.
Meanwhile, Australia’s University in Wollongong has announced that it will begin accepting applications for the July 2024 session of its master’s program in computing (data analytics) at its GIFT City branch in January of next year. In 2025, the university will begin accepting applications for its undergraduate computing program.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan declared, “Today marks a historic milestone in India’s journey in the field of higher education as we celebrate the announcement of two campuses, Deakin and University in Wollongong in GIFT City.”
He was giving a speech at Gift City’s “Arambh (The Beginning): Australian University Campuses in India” program. Pradhan and the Australian delegation also paid a visit to the Deakin and Wollongong campuses, which are still under construction.
Deakin University’s 25,000 square foot campus is scheduled to open in January 2024, probably in conjunction with the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. Admissions applications will be accepted through March 31.
“We’ll charge AUD $19,000 a year, or almost Rs 10 lakh. For students, the annual cost of living will be about Rs 2.5 lakh. That’s about half of what students pay on the Australian campus, according to Prof. Iain Martin, vice-chancellor of Deakin University.
Applications for admission to each of these two-year courses will be accepted starting today. The interface with industry is GIFT City’s strength, as we can see. We wish to participate in this information, technology, and financial ecosystem here,” he remarked.
He also mentioned that the university will start offering master’s degrees in business analytics and professional cyber security the following year. “This will be an Australian university with Australian traits operating in Indian culture in India. Students will adhere to the same calendar and study the Deakin curriculum. We hope that Australian students will come to us for a visit in the future and vice versa,” Professor Martin stated.
Meanwhile, the University of Wollongong also declared the beginning of an international partnership for women in.
