When it starts accepting students in June of next year, Deakin University, the first foreign university to establish an international branch campus (IBC) at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), is anticipated to charge half the tuition it does in its home branch of Victoria, Australia. According to Ravneet Pawha, vice president for global alliances and CEO for south asia at Deakin University, the campus, which will be built on a 25,000 square foot site, would serve as a hub for networking, learning, and employment opportunities.
“Although a final price will be revealed at the beginning of next month, the estimated cost will be roughly 50% of what is being charged in Australia. A provision would also be created to offer a 50% bursary to help deserving students, taking into account Deakin’s dedication to making the cost structure affordable for Indian students. According to him, it will help students develop the necessary skills and employability to take part in India’s transition to a digital economy.
The Deakin IBC will have plenty of room for combining academic and professional endeavours, which would contribute to the creation of a comprehensive learning-working paradigm. The specialised university campus with classroom rooms would be on the top floor, while the ground floor would feature spaces for industry partners, start-ups, and entrepreneurs. Deakin University officials have announced that they would shortly start employing administrative and academic employees and will also be releasing instructions for applying to and enrolling in courses at the GIFT City site. A team from Australia came in Gandhinagar on Thursday to take part in a roundtable discussion with representatives from more than 25 companies about potential future partnerships with Deakin, according to GIFT City officials.
