The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) hosted its 36th Convocation today conferring 2,79,917 degrees, diplomas, and certificates in the Convocation to the successful students in their respective programmes.
Gold medals were also awarded to meritorious students by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
Murmu lauded the progress made by women in a number of fields, including education, and mentioned that 55% of those who got degrees, certificates, and diplomas were female students.
The Indian President noted during the ceremony that many students find it challenging to pursue higher education due to their “responsibilities” and “circumstances”. Such pupils are receiving assistance in their study from institutions like IGNOU. Hence, distance learning has a significant socioeconomic benefit.
