The “International Visiting Student Program” program was introduced by Banaras Hindu University (BHU) today. Under this program, university research fellows will have the chance to conduct their research for a semester in reputable international institutions outside of India.
According to the scheme, the selected research scholars will study for one semester (about six months) in top 500 colleges worldwide (as THE or QS rankings). The program seeks to promote networking, support cross-institutional research, build institutional links, and advance theoretical, practical, and experimental skills.
Research scholars will be eligible for the program if they have completed their coursework with a CGPA of 8.0 or higher and have published at least two papers in their field in a publication with a reputable international reputation. The host institution must give the researcher’s permission before providing the tools they require to carry out their research.
For their semester abroad, the research researchers will also receive a combined fellowship payment of $1800 per month. They will also receive round-trip tickets in economy, payment for the visa, and health insurance (if required). As part of this program, the scholar will also get a travel allowance of about $600 to visit other institutions of interest or attend conferences in the host nation.
Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain, vice chancellor of BHU, stated that this program will give exceptional PhD students from BHU the chance to work in renowned research universities or laboratories overseas and provide them with an opportunity to compete internationally.
The National Education Policy 2020 guided the conceptualization of the program.
