More than 1400 attendees from academic institutions, civil society, governmental organisations, the private sector, and multilateral organisations from around the world attended the 7th World One Health Congress (WOHC), the premier event in the world to advance the One Health agenda, today at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore. The President of the Republic of Singapore, Mdm. Halimah Yacob, attended the Opening Ceremony as its Guest-of-Honor and gave a speech.
The SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute (SDGHI) in Singapore is hosting a five-day congress with the theme “Integrating Science, Policy and Clinical Practice: A One Health Imperative Post-COVID-19” under the sponsorship of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre. It aims to advance the global one health movement, which aims to improve health and wellbeing by preventing and resolving crises that start at the boundary between animals, people, and the environment. This is the first WOHC to take place in person since the COVID-19 outbreak, and Temasek Foundation is the Pinnacle Sponsor. It will serve as a crucial platform for encouraging cross-sectoral cooperation and collaboration.
The World Health Organization’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, gave virtual opening remarks at the Opening Ceremony. She was followed by the Director-General of the World Organization for Animal Health, Dr. Monique Eloit, whose final set of opening remarks signalled the start of a curated schedule of keynote addresses, plenary lectures, scientific sessions with abstract presentations, and panel discussions on urgent and emerging One Heal issues
