The University of Auckland, the top university in New Zealand, has just released a comprehensive list of brand-new scholarships for students from South-East Asia, offering students financial aid of up to NZD10,000. The University of Auckland ASEAN High Achievers Scholarship was established to attract South-East Asian students back to campus now that the borders are completely open. Both undergraduate and graduate students may apply for the award beginning on October 10.
Ainslie Moore, the interim director of international at the University of Auckland, said the scholarships will be given out twice a year to full-time students pursuing a variety of undergraduate, master’s, and postgraduate degrees who have excelled in their prior coursework. International students add diversity and richness to our campuses and play a significant role in research and the New Zealand workforce outside the university, she says. “This is a significant investment for this University, and we very much look forward to welcoming these top students to Auckland,” she says. With the help of this new scholarship program, it will be easier for incoming students from the area to make the switch from online to on-campus instruction.
According to Dr. Erik Lithander, the University of Auckland’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Strategic Engagement, “Covid has been tough on everyone, especially our international students who have been in limbo for so long. We’ve been supporting them every step of the way and it’s so rewarding to now see them back on campus. There’s nothing quite like the buzz of students rushing between lecture theatres, debating in tutorials, and hanging out in the beautiful Albert Park – it’s what university life is all about”.
