105 high school juniors will receive the prestigious 2023 Horatio Alger National Scholarship, according to the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit educational organisation that celebrates the accomplishments of notable people and inspires young people to pursue their dreams through higher education. The Association has given high school students its $25,000 national scholarship since its scholarship programmes were established in 1984.

The Association stated in 2021 that it will restructure its scholarship programmes to give out awards to students a year earlier in order to assist early intervention by offering resources throughout the college application and selection process. Throughout their senior year and their time in college, the Scholars will have access to a wide range of resources, including:

  • Financial assistance advice
  • Advice on college choices
  • Seminars on financial literacy and budgeting, time management, health and wellness, and other topics impacting college students are offered online.
  • 24/7 telephone and online access to mental health resources
  • Emergency funds to help students who are homeless, hungry, or have medical issues

According to James F. Dicke II, chairman of the Horatio Alger Association and recipient of the 2015 Horatio Alger Award, “as college enrollment continues to fall, we are more devoted than ever to figuring out the barriers stopping kids from achieving their educational ambitions.” “We are aware that a student’s decision to pursue a college degree is heavily influenced by cost and that no two individuals have exactly the same set of personal circumstances. Our objective is to give students the knowledge and advice necessary to make the best decision for them—one that will position them for long-term success while reducing the burden of student loan debt—by getting in touch with them earlier and offering personalised resources that go beyond financial support.”
