NASHVILLE, Tenn., August 3, 2022 — On September 7th in Nashville, Girls in Tech, a global nonprofit organisation whose mission is to close the gender gap in technology, will celebrate the 15th anniversary of its annual conference, which serves as a platform for executives from around the world to network and share insights into business trends, insider tips, failures, and successes, as well as life experiences specifically relevant to women in technology.
Girls in Tech, an organisation that CEO Adriana Gascoigne founded in 2007, has 100,000+ members and allies spread over 56 cities, 42 countries, and six continents, and has become a worldwide leader in the campaign for gender equality. Among the main accomplishments of the organisation:
- 35,000+ participants in coding, design, and startup bootcamps; the recently launched “Next Generation of Public Sector and Service Leaders,” a programme to provide education and raise awareness of career opportunities in federal, state, and local government
- 15,000+ entrepreneurs funded, mentored, and supported through the Startup Challenge, the organization’s signature entrepreneurship pitch competition
- 100,000+ participants in the Girls in Tech Hackathon series, solving local and global problems
The epidemic has adversely affected working women more than males, and many of the gender equality advancements made over the past 15 years are now under jeopardy. More than one in four women report experiencing sexual harassment at work, and 79 percent of women who have children in the home report feeling burned out, according to the Girls in Tech research “The Tech Workplace for Women in the Pandemic” from last year. The situation is considerably worse throughout the world, according to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report, which found that the epidemic has put women in such a difficult position that it would probably take more than 135 years for the gender gap to be filled.
The struggle to close the gender gap in IT and other fields won’t get any simpler, according to Adriana Gascoigne, founder and CEO of Girls in Tech. “It’s incredible to reflect back on the progress we’ve accomplished in 15 years and the 100,000+ women and allies who are unified for change,” she said.
