THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the formation of three commissions to explore methods to modernise the state’s higher education system, the administration intends to adopt some of the panels’ recommendations during the current academic year.
The administration established three commissions in September of last year, each with a specific goal: to carry out broad changes in the higher education sector, redesign the examination system, and update outmoded provisions in different university Acts and Statutes.
The first two Commissions have delivered interim findings including a series of recommendations, with the administration emphasising its commitment to implementing the changes as soon as possible. According to insiders, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will shortly convene a high-level meeting to examine and prioritise the proposals.Higher Education Minister R Bindu told TNIE, “We have gone through the interim reports presented by the two panels and will choose those proposals that can be implemented in the current academic year itself.” However, she continued, ideas that need to be explored further with many stakeholders would only be enacted after comprehensive debate.
