Education Review Demo: Teachers OPINION By Christopher Hogbin, Global Education Lead – Mathematics at 3PLearning.com – the name behind online learning programs such as Mathletics, Readiwriter, Reading Eggs. Last week, after discussing how much time was being spent in front of Minecraft, my eldest came back at me with a frustratingly good observation: “But Dad… it’s educational!” He wasn’t wrong. As a high school maths teacher, I’d ordinarily be thrilled to see my kids building complex shapes and solving problems using spatial reasoning. But as a parent, I can’t help but associate video games – mathematical or not – with…

We all have come out as winners overcoming the obstacles and continuing with teaching & learning process effectively with quality personal touch.…
What is the future of exams in the UK after the pandemic that has engulfed the entire world? For two years running now the GCSEs and A Levels have been cancelled, and it has been up to the students’ teachers to come up with a grade. However, this has led to an inflation of grades[1] – as most teachers will often overmark their students. This can clearly be seen in the data that the government agency, Ofqual[2], has supplied: For GCSEs, based on the final grades, on average, subjects in 2020 were graded nearly three-fifths of a grade more leniently…
At first glance aesthetics and learning may appear to be disintegrated concepts with no common ground. Ultimately, learning is about attaining and retaining information, which is a conscious action. But aesthetics (derived from the Greek word aisthanomai which means I perceive, feel, sense) is an emotional reaction to any object or experience, which is not a conscious effort. Thus, cognition and emotion have long been thought of as separate systems. However, current inception of the concept of cognitive neuroscience points to a tangible connection between human cognition and emotion. To delve deeper into this, let’s ask ourselves the following questions.…
-To be attributed to Author: Ms. Avalanne Dsouza, School Psychologist at The Aditya Birla Integrated School (TABIS) Have you ever sent your child to their room for a ‘time-out’? If your answer is yes, then you probably have just used an ABA technique on your child. Time-outs are designed to disengage from the current behaviour the child is trying to use to probably gain the attention of the adult. During the time-out the child is expected to calm down and use a better strategy to approach their parents if they need something. Instead of crying and shouting, they are asked…
Union budget 2021-22 will be a landmark one as we have been through unprecedented times in 2020. Given the country’s deteriorating economic situation due to the pandemic which led to disruption across several sectors, this budget will be a challenging and an extremely crucial one. Education is one of the sectors that has a huge expectancy from the Budget for reviving the sector after the Covid-induced challenges that the education institutions faced this year. Schools and colleges were closed all throughout 2020 due to the Covid crisis. Amid a pandemic, education took a back foot since it was impossible to…
Noble Purpose: Purpose of educationis to develop good human beings – capable of rational thought and action, compassion & empathy, courage & resilience, scientific temper & creative imagination, ethics & values. New Education Policy 2020 is in the right direction to achieve this purpose. Policy has been made and now the states are in the planning stage for putting implementation plan in place. There are few key areas that need to be stressed upon while making an implementation plan for such transformational policy to gets its desired impact. Early childhood care and education: As per the policy, schools will be…
To be attributed to Piya Marker, Director – Head of School, The Aditya Birla Integrated School When it comes to teaching, there’s no one-method-fits-all solution that can be implemented. Imparting knowledge is a process that is highly dependent on the student’s innate abilities, and the ability to grasp knowledge. In some cases, students might be quick learners, while some might not, and would require more time to process the information being taught to them. There’s also a section of students who face learning disabilities. Hence, there is a heightened need for educational institutes and teachers to be able to identify…
It is rightly said by Gavin Newsom, the current Governor of California that “An arts education helps build academic skills and increase academic performance, while also providing alternative opportunities to reward the skills of children who learn differently.” Going with the simple definition, art is the expression of human creative skill and imagination in the tangible or intangible form and producing works which are known for their unexceptional beauty or emotional power. One can say that art is nothing but arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. We can agree with the idea Leo Tolstoy…
Creativity and hands-on practical process to innovate, vision and discover exclusive solutions to problems while bolstering divergent thinking. 21st century expects children to think critically and creatively, communicate their ideas and be risk takers. Our curriculum prevents children from taking the plunge into the uncertainty therefore Learning has ended up as a journey of unmindful memorisation, regurgitation and forgetting the information. Unfortunately, our system depends on memory and recall as a predominant method of learning, which stunts creative learning process. Different ways of looking into the world issues and solving it is the need of the hour, and this can…
