Opposing madrassa education for young children, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that entry to any religious institution should be at an age where individuals can make their own decisions. The Delhi University on Thursday asked 32 colleges under it to expedite the appointment of regular principals, officials said. In a letter, it also asked these colleges to keep on hold the appointment on teaching and non-teaching posts till the time the principals are appointed. At present, these 32 colleges of Delhi University do not have regular principals, officials informed. At India, parents pay about Rs 20,000 per year on their children’s education in government institutions. Parents of pupils at private unaided schools pay more than twice as much, on average, at Rs 47,000 per year. According to a poll conducted by Edtech company Schoolnet India Ltd, these expenditures include school fees, transportation, and other expenses such as infrastructure and classroom amenities. Around one lakh students from across the country applied for a residential training programme of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) of which 150 were selected, the space agency said on Tuesday. The ‘YUva VIgyani KAryakram’ (YUVIKA) is being conducted by ISRO from May 16 to May 28. ISRO said 150 students were selected from all the states and Union territories of the country.
