Study Abroad: IELTS One Skill Retake accepted in New Zealand

Today, New Zealand declared that it will now take the One Skill Retake option for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). If test takers do not receive the desired score in any of the four skills—listening, reading, writing, or speaking—they may retake the test using the IELTS One Skill Retake option.

The choice was made. Immigration New Zealand acknowledged it as a legitimate and dependable method of evaluating English language competency, satisfying the strict standards for foreign immigration to New Zealand.

It can now be found at a few worldwide IELTS testing locations. In order to facilitate study and migration, test takers who opt for an IELTS One Skill Retake will be provided with a second Test Report Form (TRF) containing their updated score. Test takers have the option to use their old or new TRF for the skill they retook, based on their score.

More than 900 organizations currently accept the IELTS One Skill Retake for registration in their respective fields, including UK Visas and Immigration, the Australian Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, National Boards, Engineers Australia, and Chartered Accountants ANZ.

At IELTS, we work tirelessly to adapt our programs to the changing needs of both the institutions that depend on our tests and the test-takers themselves. Immigration New Zealand’s acceptance of IELTS One Skill Retake is evidence of the effectiveness and flexibility of our testing methodology. According to Warwick Freeland, Managing Director of IELTS at IDP Education, “this progressive step allows applicants to hone particular language skills, providing a more tailored approach to demonstrating English language proficiency.”
