Beginning with the July 2023 term, the Indira Gandhi National Open University will offer a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies degree. According to the university, a skilled workforce is required to address the environmental issues brought on by anthropogenic activity. These issues include climate change, pollution, waste management, sanitation, the preservation of biological diversity, the management of biological resources, the preservation of forests and wildlife, and sustainable development.
A number of environmental issues are the focus of the Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies. According to IGNOU, the new curriculum emphasizes the idea of “Lifestyle for the Environment (LIFE)” and will grant lateral access to MA (Environmental Studies). Students who successfully complete the curriculum will be able to take effective action to address environmental and sustainability issues in India and around the world.
The interconnectedness between the many elements of the environment will be better understood by the students, who will be better able to restore, sustain, and safeguard the environment. The course will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct an effective assessment of the state of the environment, suggest sustainable solutions, and contribute to the creation of appropriate policies for environmental planning and sustainable development.
